Back in 2019, I decided to put together a bounding cosplay outfit that represented the Weasleys Wizard Wheezes store. My dress was purple, my petticoat orange, and my accessories all worked with the theme. However, none of my purses matched and I couldn’t find anything online that I liked. Then I saw it. Loungefly’s Weasleys Wizard Wheezes mini backpack.
It was perfect! The colors, the style, everything! I bought it and couldn’t wait to wear my outfit. I initially intended to wear it to the 2020 LeakyCon but that got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so I didn’t wear it or use the bag until early 2021. To say that the bag was a hit is an understatement. Holy moly! People LOVED it! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many compliments on one of my purses as I did that day.
Here I am at Universal Studios, all decked out in witchy bling to honor my favorite wizard twins and wearing this backpack.
This bag was insanely popular when it was first released in 2019 and quickly sold out. Usually, that’s the end of the story when it comes to Loungefly bags. You either buy it when it first comes out or you get it on a second-hand website like eBay. But this bag must have been so popular that Loungefly brought it back in 2021, something I’ve not seen before.

QUALITY OF THE WEASLEYS WIZARD WHEEZES MINI BACKPACK
Loungefly has a reputation for creating well-made items and I can confirm that my experience with them matches this expectation.
This particular bag is one that I have used a handful of times and I do not see any potential problems with the quality of it. It looks like it will hold up to use for many years to come.
DESIGN AND COLOR
This bag has a variety of graphics all over it, each having something to do with the shop opened by Fred and George Weasley shortly after they abandoned their education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Included are the following in vibrant colors:
- A rabbit in a magician’s hat
- A purple W and an orange W representing one of the store’s logo
- The orange and purple logo of their store with two wizards who are back-to-back and holding wands
- Decoy Detonator wording
- Electric Shock Shake wording
- Jinx-Off wording
- A bottle of their love potion called Amortentia
- A green wand
- The storefront window with the tall replica of one of the twins removing a top hat
- A black cauldron with orange and purple sparks coming out of what’s brewing inside
- Whack Trance Whammy Rocket images that are blasting off and resemble Muggle fireworks
The images are all over the bag in random patterns, so no two backpacks will look exactly the same due to the placement of the images. That can be an issue on some fandom bags depending on the design, but not on this one. Every bag will look good no matter where the designs are located.
The overall color scheme for this is hues of purple. The background on the bag itself is lavender purple and there are stripes of dark purple accenting the zippers and side pockets, and the straps are also dark purple. The dark purple matches the W design elements mentioned above.
TEXTURE
The texture has the appearance of leather, so you can see and feel what looks like a leathery grain pattern.
MATERIAL
Although the texture might look like leather, it’s not. It’s made of all man-made materials. Not only does that mean that no animals were harmed to make it, but it will also be easy to keep clean by wiping it down with a warm cloth and gentle soap.
STITCHING
Loungefly is known for having good quality items and this is no exception. It appears to be well stitched everywhere that I look. Even better, for the most part, the colors of the stitching match the background of any given area of the bag.
HANDLES / STRAPS
There are two straps and one handle. The handle is a small loop at the top of the bag’s back and allows you to quickly pick it up and hold it. The straps are adjustable and allow you to wear the bag as a backpack. They are long enough that they can be comfortably worn by people of most sizes.
The straps are rather thick. This makes them sturdy, but I found that it also makes them difficult to adjust. While researching this product I saw that other people also struggled to adjust them.
EXTERNAL POCKETS
The exterior has a total of three pockets. There is one large one in the front that zips open and closed. It is fairly large and you could easily put keys, lipstick, a small cardholder wallet, and/or a small charger and cord inside. The lower right corner of the front pocket has a Loungefly label that has both their name and Harry Potter on it.
The front pocket is one inch deep from the back to the front, which means you have room to browse the contents within.
There are small pockets on each side. They are much too small to hold a water bottle, which would be nice, but I have managed to put an umbrella in them.

ZIPPERS
The front pocket has a single zipper. The main opening, however, has two zippers and I love this. That means that you are not forced to close the bag on whatever side the zipper closes on. Instead, you can have the zippers meet in the middle on top, on the left, or on the right side. You can close it however you prefer.
DECORATIVE ITEMS
Not all of Loungefly’s purses have additional decorative items but I’ve found that the Harry Potter ones often do, and this one does. The top front has a metal plaque that says Weasley & Weasley, although the second word is upside down and under the top one in a mirror image. This makes sense because the store is owned by twins Fred and George Weasley.
OPENING
This has a nice, wide opening, which is rather important for accessing whatever is inside the mini backpack. I have never had a problem putting things in or taking them out because of the large opening.
LINING AND INTERNAL POCKETS
Some Loungefly bags have linings on the inside that are decorated with elements related to their fandoms. Not this one, it is solid purple that matches the dark purple on the outside. This doesn’t bother me, though. The exterior is very busy and I think that it would potentially clash if the inside had something else. It actually makes sense because the two colors chosen by Fred and George to showcase their products are orange and purple, so I think that the twins would approve of this choice, but I would understand if some people are disappointed.
On the inside, you will find one loose, open pocket. It doesn’t have a zipper to close it, which I would personally prefer, but I’m happy that it’s there even if it doesn’t close. It is nice and deep, so it can hold things like glasses, keys, or even a cell phone. I love when there are additional pockets on the inside of my purses because it helps me stay organized.
DIMENSIONS AND SIZE
The dimensions for this bag are 10 1/2″H x 9″W x 5″D.
The inside area is completely open and roomy, which will allow you to put in a good many items. I have put an umbrella in mine (the kind that telescopes longer at the touch of a button), a water bottle as long as it isn’t too tall, a large wallet, and misc. odds and ends. Honestly, it holds a surprising amount of stuff inside. It could even hold a book. However, during my research, I found that it’s a bit too small for today’s iPads. Given that this is a mini backpack, this isn’t surprising to me.
CAN THIS BAG FIT IN A THEME PARK LOCKER?
If you never plan on going to a theme park with this bag then you can ignore this. However, fandom bags are very popular at places like Disney and Universal Studios. If you even plan on going to a theme park with your bag then you probably want to make sure that it will fit inside their lockers.
This bag is perfect for taking to any of the Universal Studios theme parks because they all have their own versions of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I am happy to say that this bag fits in the free lockers and I have never had a problem placing this inside. It is the right size for just about any theme park locker.
CARING FOR THE WEASLEYS WIZARD WHEEZES MINI BACKPACK
Bags always start out clean but life happens and sometimes so do stains. If that happens then the information below will help you make it look new again.
Loungefly products that are made from man-made materials and look like faux leather are easy to keep clean. All you need to do is wipe down the outside with a clean, soft, damp rag that has been wetted with soapy water. Use a small amount of a mild detergent like Dawn or liquid soap. Clean any stains, then wipe down the exterior of the bag with a dry, clean cloth. Or, you can also use alcohol-free baby wipes to clean the bag, which is even easier.

- The design is vibrant and fun, just like the Weasley twins.
- The front pocket is very roomy for a mini backpack.
- There is a slit pocket on the inside to help keep things organized.
- There are two zippers, which allow users to open and close it in their desired positions.
- The quality is very good, as is typical of Loungefly bags.
- The material is man-made so no animals were harmed.
CONS
- The lining doesn’t have a pattern, as most Loungefly bags have.
- The straps are difficult to adjust.
SUMMARY
I am in love with this bag, almost as much as I love Fred and George Weasley. Yes, I wish that the inside slit pocket was actually a zipper pocket, but to be fair, it’s actually larger than it would be if it zipped shut. That’s the only thing that I would change about this if I could and that’s such a minor issue that it will never prevent me from using it.
This is the perfect mini backpack for people both young and old who are fans of Harry Potter. It’s also great for taking to any of the Universal Studios theme parks, and it’s big enough to carry sunscreen if you choose the one in Orlando, Florida.
