Ho, ho, how adorable is this Santa Mickey Mouse mini backpack? With Christmas getting closer I’m going to review this Loungefly bag, something that I am excited to do.
There are a lot of choices when it comes to holiday purses but this one caught my eye the very first time that I saw it. I will admit upfront that I’m partial to Walt Disney’s signature mouse because I grew up watching his movies and cartoon shorts, but I will do my best to not let that cloud my vision as I examine all the details of this item.
This was sold exclusively at the Disney Theme Parks and stores in 2019. It probably won’t surprise you to learn that it sold out quickly. These days the only places where you can find them are third-party market places, but the good news is that even two years later (as of the writing of this review) I see it sold on several sites.

QUALITY OF THE SANTA MICKEY MOUSE MINI BACKPACK
Loungefly is known for having quality items and this backpack is no exception. In fact, I would go so far as to say that they have outdone themselves with the quality of this particular item because of the uniqueness of it. Not only does it have elements that extend beyond the body of the bag but it also uses multiple fabrics, which is unusual for Loungefly.
The elements that stick out from the bag are strongly made so that they will last through years of use. This includes Mickey’s ears, his hat, and the pom pom at the end of the hat.
DESIGN AND COLOR
This bag is of Walt Disney’s iconic mouse dressed up as Santa Claus. His outfit is based on the traditional clothes worn by St. Nick. It includes a red velvet suit that has a black belt with a gold buckle, and a red velvet hat with white “fur” trim and has a white pom pom dangling from the end.
You can see Mickey’s face, which shows that he is smiling broadly. His ears, of course, are too big to fit inside the hat so they stick out, as I mentioned above. The top of the hat sticks up higher than the body of the bags, just like the ears do. Loungefly doesn’t do this often and I really like it when they do because it gives a bag more character.
There are a total of four colors used to design Santa Mickey. Red, which is the predominant color, black, white, and a smidge of gold on the belt buckle.
The back of the bag is a continuation of the red of Mickey’s Santa suit.
TEXTURE
Most Loungefly mini backpacks are a single texture but this one is made from no less than three. The main texture is velvet, which makes up the Santa suit. The velvet material is on the entire back and sides, as well as part of the front.
Mickey’s face is made from faux leather that has a crosshatch pattern on it, as is the belt around Mickey’s “waist”. Finally, there is the faux fur that is used for the beard, the trim on the hat, and the hat’s pom pom. It is white, soft, and fluffy. The combination of these three materials makes for a wonderfully Christmasy bag.
MATERIAL
Despite the fact that there are multiple textures, all the materials share one thing in common. Simulated leather, faux leather, or vegan, no matter what you call it, it is man-made and means that no animals were harmed to make this bag.
STITCHING
There is more stitching on this bag than on the majority of their items that I have reviewed or seen. You can see stitching on Mickey’s face, ears, and other areas, and there is plenty more where elements have been sewn together but you can’t see the threads.
A bag like this might look like something to that you can put on display (which you absolutely can do!), but it’s also meant to be worn, which means that it needs to hold up over time. Stitching is an important part of that, perhaps the most important part, and this has been sewn well so that it will withstand the test of time and usage.
HANDLES / STRAPS
On the back you can see that there is a small holding handle sticking up from the top. This is a nice feature because it allows you to quickly pick up the bag. You can also use the handle to hang the bag from a hook if you want to display it, which I can easily see people wanting to do with this, especially around the holiday season.
There are also two shoulder straps that you use when you wear it and they are made from two different kinds of material. The top parts of the straps are padded for comfort when worn. The lower portion is made from nylon similar to seatbelts. The benefit of the nylon material on the lower portion is that it is easy to adjust for different sized bodies. I have a Loungefly backpack that has straps made entirely of the padded material and it is very difficult to adjust.
I love that the handle and upper part of the straps are shiny red. It’s very pretty, almost iridescent, and looks festive.
EXTERNAL POCKETS
As is common on Loungefly fandom bags, both sides of this mini backpack has a slip pocket perfect for holding small items. Of course, you can also get into the spirit of the season and keep things like candy canes in here for easy access to hand out treats.

ZIPPERS
There are two zippers that open this Santa Mickey Mouse bag. This is my preference because it allows you to close the zippers anywhere you want. Left, right, or center, it’s your choice.
They use gold-toned hardware and the two zip pulls have Loungefly printed on them in fancy font. The gold color is a nice touch that adds to the overall festive holiday look.
DECORATIVE ITEMS
Often the Loungefly mini backpacks will add some kind of decorative item such as a charm hanging from the zip pull. However, this bag doesn’t have any such items, nor do I think it needs any because Mickey looks like the perfect Santa just the way it is.
OPENING AND BOTTOM
The placement of the opening is at the front of the bag, which allows for easy access to the inside because the front part of the bag can be easily pulled forward when unzipped, exposing the interior. As with the two zippers, I am a fan of this placement for the opening. Not only is it easy to access the inside but it also gives a nice area for keeping tall items such as water bottles or umbrellas that telescope closed in the back where the top of the bag helps keep them in place.
The bottom is all red and made of the same shiny material as the top part of the straps and handle. This was a great choice since the velvet fabric would be much more prone to getting dirty when set down on surfaces and you can easily wipe down the bottom to keep it clean.
The bottom is also the right size for keeping the bag from falling over when it is placed on a flat surface, such as a table or the ground. It doesn’t matter if it is full or empty, it will stay upright.
LINING AND INTERNAL POCKETS
I absolutely adore the lining to this bag! It is a slightly lighter shade of red than the exterior and it has a wintery print. Repeating all over the lining are white snowflakes of many sizes. The largest and fattest snowflake has a Hidden Mickey right in the middle, as do several of the smaller ones. At least two snowflakes even have multiple Mickey’s inside them.
For those of you who don’t know, a Hidden Mickey is the silhouette of Mickey Mouse’s head and ears, and Disney likes to hide it in various places throughout their theme parks and on their merchandise. Hence the name “Hidden” Mickey. It’s a fun thing for Disney fans to look for and spot.
Unlike most Loungefly mini backpacks, there are no pockets on the inside. I prefer to have at least one pocket on the inside, more if possible, because I want organizational options. Of all the bags that I have reviewed, this one has the fewest pockets. Only two on the outside (two slip pockets on the sides) and that’s it.
DIMENSIONS AND SIZE
The dimensions for this bag are 11″ H x 9 1/2″ W x 5″ D.
This is a normal sized mini backpack and it is comparable to a typical purse. It is the right size for a water bottle, telescoping umbrella, snacks, keys, a book, eBook reader, cell phone, and other similarly sized items.
CAN THIS BAG FIT IN A THEME PARK LOCKER?
If you never plan on going to a theme park with this bag then you can ignore this. However, fandom bags are very popular at places like Disney and Universal Studios. If you even plan on going to a theme park with your bag then you probably want to make sure that it will fit inside their lockers.
This mini backpack is small enough to fit into just about any theme park locker. However, be aware that the white faux fur could potentially get dirty so if you use a locker where you have to lay it down horizontally then be sure to set it on its back to keep Mickey’s beard and hat clean. Or, even better, have a bag that you can slip it into before placing it inside a locker.
CARING FOR THE MICKEY MOUSE SANTA BAG
Bags always start out clean but life happens and sometimes so do stains. If that happens then the information below will help you make it look new again.
Loungefly products that are made from man-made materials are easy to keep clean. All you need to do is wipe down the outside with a clean, soft, damp rag that has been wetted with soapy water. Use a small amount of a mild detergent like Dawn or liquid soap. Clean any stains, then wipe down the exterior of the bag with a dry, clean cloth. Or, you can also use alcohol-free baby wipes to clean the bag, which is even easier.
PROS
- The overall design of this bag is wonderfully festive, perfect for Christmas.
- The materials are soft, they feel good to the touch.
- The size is good for carrying enough items for every day use, as well as for special times like trips to any of the Disney theme parks.
CONS
- There are only two pockets, both are slip pockets on the exterior sides, which means there aren’t many organizations options.
SUMMARY
Even though this Santa mini backpack has a serious lack of pockets, it is otherwise perfect for the Christmas holiday season! It is cute to look at and large enough to be used for a trip to the store or to a Disney theme park, and is something that I wouldn’t hesitate to use.
This is sure to be appreciated by both young and old, and every age in between. Just imagine how many comments you will get when you wear this while shopping. Hint: I’ll bet that it will be a lot.
