Jim Henson’s iconic character Kermit the Frog is beloved all around the world so I am not surprised that this Loungefly mini backpack makes the child in me happy. I grew up watching Sesame Street and am old enough that I saw it from the beginning. Later I became a fan of The Muppets and still am to this day. Because of that, I knew I had to do a review.
It is just the right size for wearing as I take a trip to my local grocery store. The green straps would be comfortable on my shoulders and the bag itself would sit perfectly on my back.
Or, I can imagine myself taking with me if I go to Disney World’s theme parks, especially if I go to the Muppets show at one of them. I would use the many different pockets to organize my gear while enjoying the knowledge that I have a happy green frog staring out at everyone from behind me.
Are you considering getting this for yourself or for someone who is a fan of Muppets? Then read on for specific details about this bag, including pictures to help you see every aspect of it.

QUALITY OF THE LOUNGEFLY KERMIT MINI BACKPACK
Quality is important when you spend money on a fandom bag. Liking how a bag looks is just one part of deciding to get a bag, and another equally important aspect is how well it will stand up over time from use. This is a well-made mini backpack, one that lives up to the quality expected from Loungefly.
DESIGN AND COLOR
This is one of the most simplistic designs that I’ve seen in a Loungefly purse but it’s perfect. It’s just the face of Kermit. His white ping pong ball eyes, smiling mouth, and neck collar. That’s it, but I don’t think anything more is needed. Fans of Sesame Street and/or The Muppets will easily recognize this from a distance.
There is one unusual aspect of the design. The eyes stick up over the top, just like they do on the puppet that inspired this. I have only seen this done on a handful of other mini backpacks.
There are a total of seven colors and the coloring should come as no surprise. White with black for the eyes, two shades of pink for the mouth, and the rest are three shades of green. This is one more color than the actual puppet has – the darker shade of the straps is the only additional color.
TEXTURE
The texture is smooth for the entire bag except for the neck collar. As you can see in the picture below, the collar has the appearance of leather with a grainy look to it, while the rest does not.
I have a Loungefly bag that is made of smooth material, the Always mini backpack. If you read that review you’ll see that my bag has a few marks on it that I can’t remove. I don’t know if the same thing would happen with this bag but it’s possible so take care to not mark it up if you get it.
MATERIAL
This bag is made from 100% manmade materials, including the lining on the inside.
The stitching is well done and the thread colors match the bag in an unobtrusive way.
HANDLES / STRAPS
There is a small handle on top, in the back. This handle will allow users to quickly pick it up or it can be used to hang the bag when not in use.
The straps consist of two parts. The top, which rests on the shoulders, is padded and made of the same soft material as the rest of the backpack. Beneath that is the part that is adjustable and feels like the same material as vehicle seatbelts.
This is a good thing because the lower part is easy to adjust. I’ve got a Loungefly mini backpack where the entire straps are made of padded material and they are difficult to maneuver.
EXTERNAL POCKETS
There is a pocket on the front which is about 1″ in depth. It’s the same width of 9″ as the rest of the bag, which makes it a good size for things like a small wallet, sunglasses, and lipstick.
The inside of the front pocket is partially lined with green fabric that has Kermit’s face all over it.
There are also two small side pockets, one on each side of the bag. They aren’t big enough for a water bottle, but you can keep glasses in there or a bottle of hand sanitizer.
Unsure what to put inside the small pockets? Here are a few ideas for you.
ZIPPERS
The main body of the bag has two silver-toned zippers. This is my preference with mini backpacks because it allows the user to decide where the zippers close. I like mine to close on the left side so I can put them both there, but people who like the right side or middle, as seen in the picture below, can do that, too.
The front pocket has a single zipper, which is all that’s needed for this area.
DECORATIVE ITEMS
Some Loungefly bags have decorative zipper pulls or other adornments but there aren’t any on this one. Kermit was a simple frog, so I don’t think any were needed.
OPENING AND BOTTOM
The location of the zipper on the main part of the backpack is closer to the front, not directly in the middle, which you can see in the picture above. The benefit to this is that when unzipped, the front can be easily pulled forward so you can get inside easily. It can be a bit more challenging to get inside when the zipper is placed right in the middle, so this is a good thing in my opinion.
It also means that you can place larger items towards the back of the bag, such as a book or water bottle, while still being able to easily access what’s in front.
The bottom of this backpack is the same green color and soft material as the rest of the bag.
LINING AND INTERNAL POCKETS
Inside you will see the same fabric that was in the front pocket. It’s green with Kermit’s smiling face printed all over it. It makes me happy looking at the pattern.
Unlike most Loungefly mini backpacks, there is no internal pocket. I wish there was, I always like having additional options for organizing items inside my purses.
DIMENSIONS AND SIZE
The dimensions are 11” H x 9” W x 5” D.
This is a typical size for a Loungefly mini backpack and can hold things like a water bottle, books, eBook readers depending on their size, wallets, eyeglass holders, and so on. Its size makes it perfect for everyday use.
CAN THIS FIT IN A THEME PARK LOCKER?
If you never plan on going to a theme park with this bag then you can ignore this. However, fandom bags are very popular at places like Disney and Universal Studios. If you even plan on going to a theme park with your bag then you probably want to make sure that it will fit inside their lockers.
If you plan on taking this backpack to a theme park then I’m happy to say that this is perfectly sized for fitting inside a theme park locker.
CARING FOR THE KERMIT THE FROG MINI BACKPACK
Bags always start out clean but life happens and sometimes so do stains. If that happens then the information below will help you make it look new again.
Loungefly products that are made from man-made materials and look like faux leather are easy to keep clean. All you need to do is wipe down the outside with a clean, soft, damp rag that has been wetted with soapy water. Use a small amount of a mild detergent like Dawn or liquid soap. Clean any stains, then wipe down the exterior of the bag with a dry, clean cloth. Or, you can also use alcohol-free baby wipes to clean the bag, which is even easier.
PROS
- The design is simple, yet perfect
- There are two zippers for the main body of the bag
- The bag appears to be well made, of good quality
- The opening makes it easy to get to the contents within
- The lining is adorable
- The bag is large enough to be used every day
- This backpack can fit in most theme park lockers
CONS
- The fact that it’s an exclusive item might make it hard to find if you want to buy it
- The material might be prone to getting marks on it, although this is a guess based on another Loungefly bag that I have with a similar texture
- The side pockets aren’t big enough for a bottle of water
- There isn’t an internal pocket
SUMMARY
I love this mini backpack! The designers at Loungefly knocked it out of the park and perfectly captured Kermit’s sweet personality.
My main concern is if the soft material will be prone to marks but that’s just a guess based on another Loungefly bag that I have. Having said that, if I owned this bag I would absolutely use it on a regular basis because of how much I like the way it looks.
This was exclusive to the Disney theme parks – Disney Land in California and Disneyworld in Florida. It’s possible this was also sold in other countries but I haven’t been able to find information about that. The problem with this being an exclusive item is that there might not be as many out there, meaning it could be challenging to find one to buy, but as of this writing that isn’t a problem.
