Cigars and Harry Potter might not go together for most people but someone I know has something that does exactly that. She owns a handmade Harry Potter cigar box purse, and it’s lovely!
She bought this on eBay in 2006 or 2007. As I told her, this is quite a treasure. I’ve never seen anything like this and there currently aren’t any listed on eBay, either currently for sale or recently ended. I even checked Etsy and there aren’t any on that site, either. That tells me that there are very few of these around.
The purse is made from a large wooden cigar box so it’s roomy inside and sturdy. Whoever made it added a handle to the top, and added images from the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on every side.
More specifically, it is obvious that the inspiration for this came from Dumbledore’s Army (aka DA), the group created by Harry Potter and his friends to defy Dolores Umbridge who was meddling in things at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
TOP AND FRONT OF PURSE
The top has a picture of Harry surrounded by various members of the DA group, along with the logo created for the group on top of the photo. The front has a picture of various elements from that film, including Harry, with Dumbledore’s Army, Albus Dumbledore, Fawkes, and Proclamation No. 33 that disbanded any groups that were not in compliance with High Inquisitor Umbridge’s rules.
SIDES OF PURSE
Both sides have the same designs on them. It’s a picture of Proclamation No. 33, as described above, with the DA logo on top of it.
BOTTOM OF PURSE
The bottom shows what the box was in a previous life. It shows that it once contained 25 cigars, along with details from the manufacturer. You can also see that four knobs have been added (I don’t really know what they are called) to protect the bottom when this is set down on a surface.
INSIDE OF PURSE
The inside has absolutely nothing to do with the wizarding world. On the lid you can see that the original picture is still there, underneath a mirror that has been added, as well as a bit of material adornment. The inside of the box has been lined with leopard spots material. I cant’ help but wonder if that’s what the box looked like originally.
This purse has only been used once by the woman who owns it. I imagine this would be a bit awkward to use because it’s literally carrying around a small box, but I love how much room is inside. Even if not in use, this would be very pretty sitting on a shelf surrounded by magical items.
