Loungefly is arguably the giant when it comes to fandom bags. They have more official licenses for brands than I have fingers to count, including Disney, Harry Potter, Marvel, DC, various anime, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Peanuts, Universal Monsters, and plenty more.
Given all these different brands, you might be wondering what their bags and purses tend to look like. What I’m going to write about in this article is a general overview of Loungefly’s style, but it is by no means complete. Every one of their bags is different, but they do have a few looks that are common to them, and those are the looks that I am going to focus on.
I don’t know for sure but I think that it was Loungefly that made mini backpacks so very popular. It’s possible, of course, that you haven’t seen a Loungefly mini backpack but if you’ve ever been to a Disney or Universal Studios theme park or to any of the many cons (aka conventions), then you know exactly what I am talking about.
These are smaller than a typical backpack, usually about 11″ tall, and are meant to be used as a purse, but worn on your back instead of across your body or over your shoulder. These can be designed with all-over-print (which I discussed here) or can be a static design, where every bag is identical.
Generally speaking, these are rectangular in shape but the top is arched. There is usually at least one front pocket, sometimes two, and very rarely there are none. The front pockets might stick out an inch or so, or they might be flat against the front of the bag. There will either be two slip pockets on the exterior sides or none. The insides might have an additional zip or slip pocket, but not always.
Then there is texture. All of their bags are made with man-made materials but those materials can vary. Some are grainy like grainy leather, some are soft like smooth leather, some are canvas, some have fake fur, and a few include a variety of these.
COMMONLY SHAPED MINI BACKPACKS
As I described above, the most common shape is rectangular with an arched top with soft or grainy vegan leather. Here are some examples:
SLOUCH MINI BACKPACKS
You will also find the occasional slouchy type of mini backpack. These have a top flap that falls onto the front. There might or might not be pockets on the front and sometimes the sides zip open to make it easier to access the items that are stored inside. Here are some examples:
CANVAS MINI BACKPACKS
Loungefly has a fair number of mini backpacks made with canvas. These usually look very similar, they have a solid background color and have faces embroidered onto the canvas. Here are some examples:
MINI BACKPACKS WITH FAKE FUR
One of my favorite variations are bags made with fake fur. The bags might be completely covered, partially covered, or have just a single element with fuzzy fur. Here are some examples:
MINI BACKPACKS WITH ELEMENTS THAT STICK OUT
Sometimes Loungefly creates bags that have various elements that stick out beyond the body of the bags. It might be ears, wings, eyes, or something else. Here are some examples:
So, there you are! A wide variety of different kinds of mini backpacks. As I said, the examples seen here are not definitive, there are plenty more of each type but this gives you a good idea of what you will find when you look for this kind of bag. No matter what you are a fan of, if you can’t find it by Loungefly then it probably doesn’t exist.
