This review is of the geometrically designed Dooney & Bourke Mickey Mouse crossbody bag, and I wanted to know if it lives up to the reputation of the brand. (Hint, it does!)
This was the first purse I’d seen from this brand so I was unsure what to expect when I chose it for examination. I confess that I also didn’t know the brand at all, so I had to do a bit of research on them to learn more. What I discovered is that their purses are expensive, but there is a very good reason for that.
They put an incredible amount of thought into every detail of their products, and, as I found, it shows in the end result. Perhaps what surprised me the most was discovering that they share the names of the people who design their bags. In this case, it was designed by Tyler Dumas. To me, that shows an incredible level of confidence because if designs fail then it falls on the shoulders of the designers. On the flip side, when designs succeed, then the designers get well-deserved credit.
This particular bag was created for the Disney theme parks. That means Disney World and Disneyland are the only places where you can buy it unless you go to secondary markets (I don’t know if this is sold at Disney parks outside of the United States). I’ve included links to where you may be able to find this if you are unable to go to a Disney park before they sell out of this model.

QUALITY OF THE GEOMETRIC MICKEY MOUSE CROSSBODY PURSE
The quality of the bag and brand is exceptional. Dooney & Bourke takes pride in their products and it shows, such as how they protect the fabric from getting dirty, and they use real leather for the straps because plastic can break with frequent use.
DESIGN AND COLOR
This bag is covered with geometric patterns. They spell out Mickey Mouse and create his face. To me, the look is both bold and subtle. Bold because of the colors used, and subtle because you can easily overlook the words or faces unless you take time to really look at the bag.
As I mentioned above, the colors are bold, and there are just four of them on this crossbody purse: black, white, red, and gray. All the patterns are created from these colors using geometric shapes.
TEXTURE
The texture of this purse is that of grainy coated cotton. It has a pebbly or cobblestone kind of appearance, which you can see in the picture below, but the feeling is like satin because of the special coating that Dooney & Bourke puts on this bag to protect it from getting dirty from daily use.
MATERIAL
This purse is made of two kinds of material. The body is made from cotton that has a protective coating on it, and the straps are made of leather.
STITCHING
Like the design, the stitching on this camera crossbody is both bold and subtle. As you can see in the picture below, the only stitching that is visible on the front is around the ‘Dooney & Bourke’ gold-toned label. You can also see the stitching on the back pocket and snap, along the zipper on top, and on the shoulder strap. The rest of the stitching is hidden, but whether visible or hidden, it is sewn well and is meant to hold up over time.
HANDLES / STRAPS
This has a traditional shoulder strap that is made of leather. It is black with red edging and has beige stitching with a gold buckle. The strap can be adjusted with the buckle and you can make it long enough to be worn as a crossbody or shorten it to wear over one shoulder.
I had to think for a moment about why they chose leather for the strap instead of man-made materials, and then I remembered what has happened to some of my belts that weren’t leather. The material has gotten weak at the hole where I would buckle it, eventually breaking. But this hasn’t happened to my leather belts. The leather straps are one more proof of the quality workmanship that goes into this bag.
EXTERNAL POCKETS
The back of the purse has a slip pocket that closes with a gold-toned magnetic snap.
ZIPPERS
There is a single zipper that opens and closes the bag, and the hardware is gold-toned. The zipper has a black leather zip pull that is edged with red. Unlike the shoulder strap, the stitching on the pull is black and not beige.
DECORATIVE ITEMS
This bag comes with a detachable black leather dangle that has “Ty for Disney” embossed on it. I’m not positive, but I think that “Ty” represents the name Tyler, who was the designer of this bag.
It’s difficult to see in the first picture so I lightened it to show you the wording.
OPENING AND BOTTOM
As is typical of most purses, this one opens on the top. The zipper opens from one side to the other, allowing you easy access to the contents found within.
The bottom is flat and has the same geometric design as the rest of the bag. Because it is flat, you can set it down on the bottom and it won’t fall over.
LINING AND INTERNAL POCKETS
The inside is fully lined with red fabric. There is a key hook on a strap that is sewn onto the lining, as you can see in the picture below. This allows you to attach your keys to the hook so you don’t lose them.
There are two pockets on the inside of the Dooney & Bourke Mickey Mouse geometric camera bag. The pocket on one side zips shut and the one on the other side is a slip pocket.
I love when my purses have multiple pockets because having two pockets doubles your ability to organize the items that you keep inside the purse.
SIZE
This is a relatively small purse so it won’t weigh down your shoulders or back as you wear it. It can fit smaller items such as a wallet, glasses, hand sanitizer, a cell phone, a small bottle of water, makeup, pens, and/or a small camera.
The size could be a deciding factor for some people so I recommend taking that into consideration if you are thinking about getting this bag.

The dimensions for this Mickey Mouse purse are 5” H x 7 1/2” W x 2″ D.
CAN THIS FIT IN A THEME PARK LOCKER?
If you never plan on going to a theme park with this bag then you can ignore this. However, fandom bags are very popular at places like Disney and Universal Studios. If you even plan on going to a theme park with your bag then you probably want to make sure that it will fit inside their lockers.
This is a small bag so you would have no problem fitting it into a theme park locker.

Dooney & Bourke is known among purse aficionados as one of the best manufacturers of bags, and this one is no exception. It is a beautifully crafted purse that will appeal to people who love Mickey Mouse and want one of the best Disney bags made.
It’s small, which is great for daily use when you don’t need to carry a lot. If you are the type of person who likes to fit a lot of items in your bag, then this might not be the purse for you. However, if you are looking for a bag that won’t weigh you down, then you’ll want to seriously consider this one.
