If you are interested in the Dooney & Bourke foldover purse of Dumbo then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve done a thorough review of it to help you decide if this is the right bag for you.
This is an item that was made exclusively for the Disney company and sold at their theme parks and website but has long since been sold out. The good news is that I’ll show you where to find it on other sites.
This design was made to coincide with the theatrical release of the live-action Tim Burton film but for some reason this line of purses was delayed and not sold until after the film had been out for a while.

QUALITY OF THE DUMBO FOLDOVER BAG
Some companies are known for their quality and Dooney & Bourke is one such manufacturer. People buy their products not just because of the looks but also because they know that they will hold up well and are made to be used.
DESIGN AND COLOR
This is an all-over print that shows various images of Dumbo during his time at the circus. Unsure what I mean by all-over print? Read about it here.
The design is absolutely adorable! It has Dumbo, Timothy Mouse, the ringmaster, other elephants, and additional elements seen during his time with the circus.
The colors are beautiful. It reminds me of watercolor paintings and the images are pretty enough to be used as art that you’d hang on your walls. Or, maybe that’s just me.

MATERIAL, TEXTURE, AND STITCHING
The exterior is made from leather that has a pebble-like texture. As you might guess from looking at the picture below, it would feel slightly bumpy if you ran your fingers across the surface of this bag.
The stitching uses beige thread that matches the background of the purse. The thread is thick and is meant to hold up to every day use.
HANDLES / STRAPS
There is a single strap that is used to wear this on your shoulder or as a crossbody bag. The strap can be removed if you want to use it as a clutch instead.
The strap, which is taupe in color and matches the color of the hanging tassel, can be adjusted with a buckle. At its longest it is 26″ in length, giving you plenty of strap to decide if you want it on your shoulder or across your body.
EXTERNAL POCKETS
Normally when I review bags that have an external pocket, the pocket is immediately visible when you look at the bag. Not in this case. Some might argue that there isn’t an external pocket but I think that there is.
Why would I say that? Because the way this bag is designed has the top portion of the bag folded over the rest of the body. When the foldover part is standing up straight then you can see the external pocket.
Inside the pocket you will find six card slots and an open area for you to keep things like your keys, sunglasses, and/or your cell phone.
ZIPPERS AND DECORATIVE ITEMS
There is a single zipper on this bag and it closes the top of the bag, which then folds over and rests closed on the side using magnets to keep it in place. The zipper is made of gold-toned hardware.
Hanging down from the zipper is a leather tassel that is taupe, the same color as the strap.
OPENING AND BOTTOM
I’ve described the opening already but it is an unusual design. Most purses with a flap open after you lift the flap up. But in this case, the flap is part of the bag. The zipper is on the top of the flap and when unzipped let’s you access the entire interior of the bag.
Forgive me if that doesn’t make sense, so hopefully this picture will do a better job of showing you what I mean.
I tend to be an over-thinker and think of things that others might not. When it comes to purses that means that I think about potential pickpockets. This means that with this unusual design, pickpockets are going to have a very difficult time getting anything.
First, they would have to unzip the bag. Next, they would have to reach inside in such a way that they get past the foldover flap. I think it’s unlikely that anyone could reach inside very far without you realizing what was happening, which means that your items are likely to stay safely inside when you use this.
As you can see from the picture above, the bottom is very narrow so you aren’t able to sit this bag on the bottom. Instead, you’ll have to set it down on its side or hang it from the straps.
LINING AND INTERNAL POCKETS
The lining inside this bag is solid red, broken up only by the ‘Dooney & Bourke’ tag that’s stitched onto it. You can’t tell from this picture, but you can reach all the way inside the bag from this opening.
There are two pockets inside this opening, in addition to the entire inside area. I regret that I do not have better pictures that show the pockets, but one is a zip pocket and the other is a slip pocket. This means that you have more options for keeping the contents of the bag organized. I love pockets so it makes me happy to know that there are several on this bag.
DIMENSIONS AND SIZE
The dimensions for this bag are 6″ H x 8 1/2″ W x 1 1/2″ D.
This is small as far as purses go. You might not be able to fit a laptop inside, but you can certainly fit the most common things most people need, such as a wallet, a cell phone, lipstick or lip balm, hand sanitizer, a few snacks, car keys, and other similar items. It’s not meant to be used as a backpack but it’s perfect for daily errands and activities.
CAN THIS BAG FIT IN A THEME PARK LOCKER?
If you never plan on going to a theme park with this bag then you can ignore this. However, fandom bags are very popular at places like Disney and Universal Studios. If you even plan on going to a theme park with your bag then you probably want to make sure that it will fit inside their lockers.
You will have no problems at all fitting this into a theme park locker, no matter the size.
CARING FOR THE DUMBO FOLDOVER PURSE

SUMMARY
This is a beautiful purse that looks to me more like a work of art than a bag. The unusual design gives you plenty of organizational options. This would be a lovely bag to take to a Disney theme park, although you’d have to do so with minimal items because of its smaller size.
